360 elite with RROD
Just got three red lights on my elite. I don't even play it that much...
~4 months old.

I wonder when my box will RROD, I have an Elite also.
Is it a bad sign if my machine is loud as hell everytime it reads the disc?

I bought Fifa 08 a week before this and it applied some patch to the console. Based on a few google searches, it seems like a lot of Elite's have been brought down by new games installing patches.

Most of the elite's have BenQ drives which should reduce the noise, but a noisy 360 isn't abnormal by any means

How does installing patches overheat the CPU or motherboard? That's the cause of the Three Red Ring right?

I don't think overheating is always the problem, but there's a good chance with so many high-end components. I heard that flashing the console with modded firmware can cause it to run hotter, so maybe it is possible that patches are causing it to overheat more... Maybe not.
In other cases I've heard cold solder joints being the problem (can be temporarily fixed with a heat gun). So the problems can range. At least Microsoft is repairing these things.

All that the 3 lights mean is that something has died inside. If you experience this, there is absolutely nothing you can do yourself to fix it. I hope you are still under the warranty, because otherwise, you will be dishing out some cash to get it fixed/replaced.
Microsoft ftl.

Every games console ftl.
PC ftw! I'd even prefer an Apple Mac over a games console.

At least you can use the Apple Mac for more than just games.
Actually come to think of it, I think you can use it for anything except games
But still, Apple Macs > Games Consoles. Infinity.

EA and Apple made a deal to have more EA games come to the mac platform. This should raise the number of games available for the mac. Albeit, from the worst game making company.

What about the fact that for the same amount of money you buy a new Apple Mac for..you can build a fortress of xbox360s?

With a few xbox 360s, you can heat up an entire house and keep the furnace off.

Re: 360 elite with RROD
True, but all you can do with the 360 is play games, listen to music, watch pictures and videos etc. etc. With a mac, you can do more (install other programs and stuff).
But by no means would I spend any money on a Mac. I'd prefer it over any games console, but I wouldn't buy it. It's because Macs, like any piece of technology, are prone to being outdated very quickly. And the thing with Macs is that unless you get one of those G4/tower machine things, there is no real way of upgrading. And as you stated, Macs are extremely expensive, and like all Apple products, overhyped and not worth their value (in terms of technicality).

Re: 360 elite with RROD
My system just RROD'd on me for the first time too. It's about 4 months old as well. Luckily, a reset fixed it...but if it does it again, I am sending it in right away.
