I bought Fifa 08 a week before this and it applied some patch to the console. Based on a few google searches, it seems like a lot of Elite's have been brought down by new games installing patches.
Most of the elite's have BenQ drives which should reduce the noise, but a noisy 360 isn't abnormal by any means
