Rating name for people with negative rep

People with some negative rep, but not a lot, have "a little shameless behaviour in the past." Shouldn't it be shameful behaviour?
I know I'm being rediculously finicky but I guess it's just always bothered me...

I would probably say shameful too as shameless is taken to mean unashamed or brazen. Similar in behavior that isnt acceptable as per society. Still probably splitting hairs but ...

Re: Rating name for people with negative rep

They're actually both correct. One's behaviour might be shameful, but one might feel no shame, and thus be shameless. Equally, being said to be shameless implies that one's actions carry a degree of shame, and are thus shameful.

We could pontificate further, but I feel the point to be sufficiently illustrated.

Yeah, I understand what you mean with shameless, but the caption says that the behavious is shameless, which to me implies that the behaviour is not something to be ashamed of.
I know I'm being a pain the arse, but.... nah there's no real reason, it was just bugging me.

Shameless implies that the person feels no shame. Its really up to him or her to decide

I went ahead and changed it solely so you could say you were instrumental in having a change made on this forum

I believe that either works. I could ask my grammatical editor, but then she'd quote some manual of style or something.....

Re: Rating name for people with negative rep

The negative rep thing is kinda pointless. What about those with 40,000 posts (you know who you are)? Say one person has a bad day and gives them a bad rep then no one is really going to notice? But if a newbie gets a bad rep on their first visit then it will show?

What really annoys me is that I get reps saying "Thanks for the help" etc. but they have clicked the negative rep button....

Re: Rating name for people with negative rep

A reputation is an average. If a negative rating doesn't noticeably impact someone's reputation, it is an indication that their posts are generally useful and positive. The point of the rating system is not to give people the power to make others appear a certain way, but to give them useful feedback on their posts. Reputations are an artefact of that, in order to help newcomers assess the potential value of a post.

If you get a positive comment with a negative reputation score, then you can point this out to the admin (me) and it will eventually be reversed or removed. If it seems to be a mistake, then it can be fixed.

In a situation like this, before contacting an admin, send a PM to the member that gave you the negative rep and verify that, from that person, the negative was not their intention.

    You can not presume.

If you question them, contact the member who gave them to you and ask.

Re: Rating name for people with negative rep

    Actually -

Don't confuse people who have a reputation power of 0 with people who are giving you a negative rating. You've had three people rate you that had a power level of 0 because they didn't qualify yet to give reputation points. Those are not negative. They simply have no value associated with them.

(And only one of the three actually said "Thanks". The others didn't say anything )

Re: Rating name for people with negative rep

I got one suggestion against forums rating system.

I suggest reward and purnishment system.

If a member post one reply or one new topic he can obtains one forum point.

if a member always do the position attitude and behaviour. Others member may give the second type of point. That's Popularity Point. Range depend on cumulative forum point obtains by members. For instance, New member can add 2 maximum popularity point, Lively member can give 4 popularity point and so on.

Lastly is , Contribution point. This point only can give by moderator team. Which if a member answered a question and help the members solve the problem. Moderator team may give the Contribution point to problem solver.

What the objective of my suggestion ?
    Encourage members contribute to forum.
Lead the positive attitude and behavious.
    Make Forum more interesting.

Sorry for my bad english , I just wanna contribute some of the idea to forum because I'm also a member of family in Vbforums.

    :-)

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think the current reputation system is complicated enough. Also, what you're suggesting would require a modification to the way the software works, which we prefer to avoid as much as possible.

Someone may disagree with me of course.

I agreed with you, my suggestion would require a modification to forum software. However, a lot of forum have been switched to newer version but it will be more complicated. Perhaply, in some people view, simple is more comfortable, I didn't deny it. Furthermore, I dun think the current rating system is complexity, just whose help you , you rate him.

Lastly, for vbforum members is very fast and easy to adapt any complicated system apply to forum. Because everyone of them are IT Base.
Just my single cent of opinion.

Sorry if any wrong i been wrote.

I like your suggestions in theory, but as Penagate said, it would overcomplicate things, and there's nothing really wrong with the current system, so why change it?
