I have a question about some names of engine like , what type of engine is like ages of empire, starcraft and such . Is there any c++ engines source for games like that .
WHat would we do with out Microsoft.
A lot more.

Age of Empires uses a extended isometrical engine (extended because it supports different heights), Starcraft too. Command & Conquer 1/2 use a simple (square based) tile engine as Secret of Mana or Zelda 1-4 do. Top-Down tile-engines were used in Bomberman but not for very long Games like Earth 2150 btw. use also a tile engine, just 3D...

Hex is slower but looks better...
however, 3D is best
