    Re: Mafia spectator thread

I was too inactive because of the timezone issue (read my post at the end of the Mafia thread). A couple of suggestions for the next game:
When I played it once, somewhere else, we gave the game a theme. I think the first one was just Mafia, but then we had a pirate theme, where the civilians were pirates on a ship, trying to weed out the Royal Navy (mafia) spies.
Also, there were more roles than just civvy, goon, doc, cop. A few extra civvies had special roles. There were 2 that were allowed to PM each other during the night (there was a hole in the wall between their rooms), there was a second cop, but he only had a 50% chance of getting it right. The GM would flip a coin and either tell him the right thing, or make something up. Oh, and the second cop didn't know that they were semi-incompetent. There were others, but I can't remember em now. The mafia also had to choose who was going to do the whacking, and there were was an extra special role who was like a town-watchman. He had a chance of seeing people doing stuff each night, but only got a vague idea- he didn't know if he was seeing a goon on the way to a whacking, a cop going investigating, a doctor protecting, or even something else. All of this made the game much more interesting.

But you all had so much trouble with the simple game, the mind boggles at how a more complicated one would work...
    I use VB 6, VB.Net 2003 and Office 2010

    Code:
Excel Graphing | Excel Timer | Excel Tips and Tricks | Add controls in Office | Data tables in Excel | Gaussian random number distribution (VB6/VBA,VB.Net) | Coordinates, Vectors and 3D volumes

When I played this game it was about 3 years ago. So I was 15, and the oldest player was 18. The mod (also 18) was the only player who had ever even heard of the game.
Surely if first-time teenage players can handle it, then people on a forum for discussing something which is meant to take a degree of intelligence can.

The more intelligent the individuals are, the more they seem to struggle with team-based tasks.

The reason you all did OK 3 years ago is because you were all simpletons. And considering the likes of timeshifter and dclamp were in this game, that is saying something.

It's a little bit easier to have complex rules when you are playing in person rather than on a forum.

They don't. Both sides have the numbers they start with and try to whittle the other side down. It's a war of attrition.
