    Hello all,

I was wondering what the best book(s) for beginning JSP are. I have exprience with ASP, and a solid base in internet stuff. I heard Wrox's books are pretty good. any comments or suggestions?

    Thanks eh.

    Cool choice of books

    Hey Kagey,

I got 2 JSP books right now. I would recommend them:
    1) Professional JSP by wrox publications - it is dedicated to JSP, servlets, EJB, JNDI, JDBC, XML, XSLT and WML. There is a good section on JDBC and connection pooling, JSP session tracking, and Error Handling. It has ample amount of case studies including one on EJB.

    2) The Other one I have is Web Development with JavaServer Pages by Duane K. Fields and Mark A. Kolb. It is about a yr old, but is a very good book. It gives a good insight on what and how JSP works.

There is another book I am planning to get, but budget is limited. That book is:

Java Server Programming J2EE Edition by wrox publication(it is the fattest book i know about 1700 pages). The Professional JSP book(which I have) covers about half the material has this book, but I would like to get some insight on EJB. I think this book will give a good insight on how JSP will aid in EJB.

I also have a seperate EJB books too...
    1) Enterprise JavaBeans by Richard Monson-Hoefel(O'Rielly book)
    2) Java 2 Enterprise Edition with BEA Weblogic Server by Paco Gomez and Peter Zadrozny(another Wrox's books). The Thing with this book is that it covers an entire project from the start.

The thing with wrox publications is that sometimes the sample code may not work. It may require some debugging on your part, but I would still recommend the books.

    Hope this helps,

    Manoj

Would it be better for me to learn php or jsp for a linux/unix server?

Also, coming from asp, which is the easiest to grasp?

    hmmm....jsp vs php

    Hey Kagey,

first question jsp or php for linux/unix server???

that I am not sure if i can that question... because I am not really fimilar w/ linux/unix server to answer question.

    second question which is easier....
I like jsp it is extremely easy to learn by itself. The thing with jsp that is deadly is knowing how to use other components of java. For example, you can have seperate servlet, java bean, other java files that would allow that jsp to talk to the respective files. So, the crucial information is kept hidden(credit card numbers, passwords, etc). You can directly hard code it in jsp file. If you don't know anything about java, jsp is still is to pick up. Then again, I favor jsp because jsp by itself is alot easier to learn than java.

I am not sure if I seemed much of a help
