Installing ubuntu
When installing ubuntu from the cd I downloaded, I got ubuntu to begin to load, and when I click the first option of install/ run cd or something i get the following error "Cant access tty;job control turned off." I have read everywhere about this error, but I have no idea how to fix it. Im running vista on my dell laptop. Any suggestions?

Re: Installing ubuntu
Try asking on the Ubuntu Forums. You're more likely to get someone who knows the answer there.
EDIT: A quick search of ubuntuforums found a few results...
http://ubuntuforums.org/search.php?searchid=28057716 (searching for "Cant access tty job control turned off")
Try running the cd check and the memory test from the first boot menu of the desktop install cd. You might have a corrupted CD or bad RAM.

Re: Installing ubuntu
If the problem is a corrupt CD, then, a good solution would be requesting free original CDs, from http://shipit.ubuntu.com. Just wait before October 18, 2007, when Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon will be released.

Re: Installing ubuntu
Do you think they will give away CDs for Gutsy Gibbon? They didn't do that with Edgy Eft, so I assumed they kind of "miss out" a release...?

Re: Installing ubuntu
I think that they only ship CDs for Long Term Support (LTS) releases. The next LTS release will be Gutsy + 1; the last LTS release was Dapper (6.06)
Every passing hour brings the Solar System forty-three thousand miles closer to Globular Cluster M13 in Hercules -- and still there are some misfits who insist that there is no such thing as progress.

Re: Installing ubuntu
CDs of Ubuntu 7.10 are already available for preorder via ShipIt.

Canonical Ltd. ships free CDs of every Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Edubuntu release. I have CDs of Ubuntu 5.04, 6.06, 6.10 and 7.04. All of them were shipped to me, however only Ubuntu 6.06 was a LTS release.
