    Question

USA should be divided into 50 countries, or atleast California should become a country on its own....

    What do you think?

I don't think any country should be divided.
Dividing a country will not help it in any way.

Why 51? 50 is enough I think (unless we take over Australia and England )

Doesn't Quebec want to become part of America.

Supposedly they think you won't make as much fun of their outrageous French accents as we Canadians do.

Tell that to the Welsh and Scottish. As a jesture of goodwill, I am going to replace "Brighton, England" in my profile to "Worthing, West Sussex, UK". How's that for diplomacy??

    You are forgetting:

    The Americas Cup

The World Cup in Rugby Union

    International Sevens Series

Cricket World Cup -> Mens and Womens

    Cathy Freeman -> GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Numerous other world titles which Beacon will no doubt post here in due course.

What has America won exactly, a few minor sporting events that no one outside of North America cares about.

Please don't break America into 50 countries, l spend too much time laughing at one company, give me a break l would end up with a rupture.

    Red face 52 states

I thought America had 52 states? What about Alaska and Hawaii?

    Talking World Series

I don't know if they don't actually allow teams from other countries to take part or whether it's just the case that no other countries want to take part!

Counting Alaska and Hawaii, we have 50 states. We also have a:

    Federal District
The District of Columbia is not not part of Maryland, nor does it abide my any Maryland law. It is a seperate territory, without full state's rights. It has but one city, the Federal capital, Washington.

Puerto Rico, a territory that does not have statehood. It is pretty much a protectorate since it is allowed to govern itself to some degree.

    U. S. Virgin Islands, again, a territory.

The State of Texas joined the union under the condition that it could leave at any time. That clause still stands, so far as I know. Texas has the ability to become a seperate Rebulic whenever the mood strikes.

simonm: the world series is just the final game of the playoffs in major league baseball. Canada has the toronto blue jays and montreal expos that are in the major league. the jays actually won it back in the days of joe carter and roberto.

SurfDemon: Quebec wants to separate from Canada to form its own country, but if they did, then they would have to pay their share of the national depicit.

    A logically fact about USA
Yeah, I'm with Katie on that one. I'm hoping with this poor grammar you are not a native speaker. If you are upset about learning the English language, don't blame us, we got it from England.

Funny how that works, English being from England and all.

At present their causing our national debt. People out West resent all of our filthy lucre going to the poorer provinces to support whacky schemes. People out East resent the fact that so few people live in the west and they have all the cash.

I assume ther's some chap in the middle (Manitoba) who's happy.

Yeah, British, American and Aussie. Each has it's own spelling of some things and even different words but they're still classed as English.

Except we spell everything correctly and the rest of you need to be re-educated

    Pix

Was expecting more of an arguement there.

    Good News Americans

The Aussie Foreign Minister today demanded that the US crew of the spy plane be released by Chinese authorities immediatly as this had gone on to long. Expect immediate release of your crew....not...

    Hmmm,

Quebec wants to separate from Canada to form its own country, but if they did, then they would have to pay their share of the national depicit.
That was a joke... This is going on for more than 300 years. Quebec want to do that to separate French and English... I think that's just wrong... I'm French Canadian and I like English people (I'm talking about real English... Not americans...) more than French Canadian.

    Unhappy Independance

Every man and his dog want independance these days.

I think countries should be looking for ways of increasing our cooperation and integration with other countries rather than seeking to distance ourselves.

cyberwarpy...for someone who "hates" Americans you sure do seem to be obsessed with us......any particular reason?
Nope... No particular reason....I'm just exercising my basic rights: Freedom of Speech... And oh Yes, USA is not the only country in the world that has that as its basic rights, so does Australia...

I think it's about time the rest of the world unites to show USA that USA is not the greatest power and never will be.... Every country should be treated equally and respected for its uniqueness. However, It is my firm belief that USA is just the odd-one-out. For e.g. Australia & NZ never calls itself as one of the greatest power... we only think we are lucky to have what we have...

Yeah, I'm with Katie on that one. I'm hoping with this poor grammar you are not a native speaker. If you are upset about learning the English language, don't blame us, we got it from England.
Actually I was about to ask a different question regarding that topic, but division of states just blinked in my mind Sorry Americans, for any inconvinience it may have caused you.... I don't hate you, I just love debating about you...

Yep! You are also right about my grammar...because: I'm orginially from India...a long long time ago... I speak many languages: English, Indian, French and a little bit of Russian... It's hard to perfect one of them.

    Question Canadian English?

I'm sorry, as I know this may offend Canadians, but Canadian english just sounds like an extension of American english to me.

My point being, I would struggle more to tell the difference between a 'Boston' and Canadian accent than I would a 'Boston' and 'Texan' accent.

I think the British Isles have the greatest diversity of english accents (especially considering it's size) out of anywhere. I, having an Essex accent, would have serious difficulty in catching one word in five of a native Glasweigan!
Everything I say is either loose interpretation of dubious facts or idle speculation rooted in irrational sentiment.

You're right though. I've lived here 2 years and I can just about tell the difference in the accents. But what does make them different (as I mentioned earlier) is that they use British spelling which is cool!

Couldn't agree more about the diversity of British accents as well.

All in all, I'm in a pretty agreeable mood this morning!
