The nrg file is in the hard disk. I've tried isobuster but it has created a 'tao' file. What do I open this one with?

    Re: nrg

I have no real idea about why it make 'tao' file. Is there a file called 'cue'. As far as I know Nero use this file to burn the 'tao' file, try to 'burn image' with 'cue' file. You can open the file. I have done this before on Nero 5.

By the way, have you tried to burn the 'nrg' file. Open Nero > Burn Image, and select you 'nrg' file and burn it.

    No cue file I'm afraid.

Yes I can. Are you suggesting I burn it and then extract the contents from the CD?

Of course. After burning you can extract from the CD. But I haven't do it. All the time in such a case I got the cue file, even that done in couple of times.

All right, I'll try your suggestion when I go back home.

    Ok, put your result here.

By the way if you can waist one DVD(Depend of the data size), I suggest another way. First rename your tao file iso file. Then open it using Nero, select your burner, and burn it. You have data on it. Here the issue is, exactly can't say about the space it takes.

Well I haven't run the test yet. I'm not sure I want to waste a CD on that specially if I can't be 100% sure that it's going to work. Perhaps I'll try with a RW CD which I have yet to buy. Stay tuned.

    Re: nrg

I finally found a better way by means of the PowerIso software. It creates virtual drives that can be mounted using the nrg file. Thereafter you can open the drive and its files with e.g. Windows Media Player and use the "extract from CD tab".

I downloaded the trial version from http://www.poweriso.com/ and I still don't know its limitations, but it worked fine.

Ok, I'll check it for how far easy rather than burning a CD.

I think you can use it as unregistered copy for less than 300MB files. Site not clearly says that. I'm not best in registry, but I think there is some way to find about the expiration and stuff.

I used it for a 630 Mb file.

    Re: [RESOLVED] nrg

I haven't tried with nrg files but iso files can be easily extracted to hd with the compress / uncompress utility 'winrar'.

So everything works fine. After extracted have you get that 'cue' file. And also can you change the compress application to any other, like WinZip or else, somewhere in the PowerISO.

No cue files... just the few files constituting the actual data (contents of the original CD).

The previous comment is about the nrg file I was struggling with. As for the iso file, I couldn't use winzip to extract the contents. Looks like winrar is more versatile.

Sorry I can't try winrar with the nrg file because I deleted it after I extracted the contents. Some other time...

Well, I think it's freeware. Winzip was all I needed until I received e-mail with an attached file compressed with winrar.

I think WinRAR is shareware, not a fully freeware. You may paid a little for personal usages. Normally I use win zip all the time, and mostly get files by compressed win zip.

Why! it turns out I had not deleted the file after all. So I tried to open it with winrar but it didn't recognize the format. Just FYI

Last night I go through about nrg on the net. Find one freeware archive utility supporting many archive formats, called IZArc. Actually first time I've seen it. The article says that, support for the works on such files like, nrg, iso, bin........

    Here is the home page

Just go through this page as well

Actually I don't want to test it. And haven't heard anyone use it.

Hmmmm, it may well be that I don't need to extract the files of a nrg file again in a long time but, what the heck, I've downloaded it just in case. Thanks for the link!

Me too, download a copy. If I got a chance, I'll test it. As the site explain it wont bad. Why I'm worry to use it is, there is no any user comments found.

    Ya it can be.

You know why I avoid testing this. I gave you links. If you can go on with second link and scroll the page far bottom. Read the last line of words. I never see that the developer says those things to there customers.

"Many bug fixes"? Well, yes, usually they tend to state exactly what bugs they've taken care of, it seems that earlier versions had so many that it was impossible to write a full report

Exactly, so how can I verify or how can I make a decision without hesitation that the later versions are ok, without user comments.

Actually that is what I want to do is. When I'm going home I want to test it on my old machine. May be it should have much better functionality. And also I want to find a nrg or cue file to test it. I want to test PowerISO as well. Want to check there is a way to work with WinZip.
