Re: PHP, A programming language?
It started as a scripting language but over years its capabilities have been extended to a point where you can actually call PHP an almost fully featured programming language.

Re: PHP, A programming language?
Do a General Developer search for PHP...you will discover a number of threads on this language which are very supportive.

A programming language is an artificial language that can be used to control the behavior of a machine, particularly a computer. Programming languages, like human languages, are defined through the use of syntactic and semantic rules, to determine structure and meaning respectively.
Programming languages are used to facilitate communication about the task of organizing and manipulating information, and to express algorithms precisely. Some authors restrict the term "programming language" to those languages that can express all possible algorithms;[1] sometimes the term "computer language" is used for more limited artificial languages.
Thousands of different programming languages[2] have been created, and new languages are created every year.
PHP is not a Turing-complete langauge, but still a programming language.
A good example of a turning complete langauge is my favorite: COW http://www.bigzaphod.org/cow/

Re: PHP, A programming language?
May I ask what languages timeshifter knows? Last time I talked to him he was a fairly proficient Visual Basic 6 programmer.. thats hardly a "proper programming language" by many peoples standards
chem
Visual Studio 6, Visual Studio.NET 2005, MASM
