My advice is never give up. Winston Churchill said, "Never, never, never give up." Actually just one never is sufficient. If you're interested in a text I always recommend Visual Basic.Net Step by Step for 2003 or Visual Basic 2005 Step by Step both by Michael Halvorson. They come with a cd that has working programs or just take any good text and stick with it. Don't feel that you have to go through a text cover to cover though. Keep trying to make some simple programs of your own that work. You can always return to them for reference. Just try to solve one little problem at a time and then the next little problem and keep on going and going. If you don't like problem solving then computer programming is not for you. If you like bathing in an ocean of never ending ever new problems for eternity then programming is where it's at. Learn to enjoy problem solving and then you can enjoy programming and life since they are both chock full of problems.
Make as many mistakes as you can as quickly as you can. We want to make sure that we make a great enough number of mistakes in a given amount of time so that we can be successful.

My advice is remember Visual Basic by reading it out. Visual Basic programming is much like structuring a sentence if you read it out.. thats what I did anyway. Once I had that down, it wasn't hard to move onto other languages.

TBH, i struggle to remmember code syntax sometimes as it can be very strange. i use the intelesence all the time particuarly because i cant spell. i find VB easier than other languages because of this.

from your statment above it would seem that you have trouble in logical thinking there will be way to improve this however i don't know what they are others may.
ohh and NO You are not stupid.
we all start working on a problem the long way this is how we learn. i had to change the hight of the straps on my kids baby Seat yesterday it took me 20 minutes to do the first and 5 minutes to do the second so thats 15 minutes to figure out how it works.

    thanks

And, if you just can't figure it, ask someone how can, or already knows.

Although both my kids are adults now, I s-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o remember this. Actually, I never did figure this out on my own. My wife had to show me. Once she showed me how to do it, though, I had it.

I think, to be honest, the problem is most likely that you have tried to learn a programming language without learning programming itself. By and large, you will face the same problems no matter what language you try.
