Re: how internet works - Question for long time
Thx it helped quit a bit but one more Q :
for example -
My friends house and my house's internet connections are in a same wire - the tech guy came and pulled a wire out of a same wire that went to others in the area -
How does the router know where to sent - if a router knows where to send then - wouldn't it be accurate to find the location of any one ? and also it a same wire ! how does all the connections go in a same wire !

Re: how internet works - Question for long time
routers all have a table of addresses constantly updated in them. Each router that connection might be hooked into will listen to the IP address and if it sees a network IP it recognizes as belonging to a network it is hooked to, it forwards that packet. Otherwise it ignores it.

Re: how internet works - Question for long time
In general, when you use a browser it will first look into the hosts file located at c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc. After that it will go to a DNS. The domain name server is a huge database of all websites and its corresponding IP addresses.

Re: how internet works - Question for long time
that depends: if you are using dial-up the internet protocol is wrapped in another one for modems (i forget what it is). But not exactly in any case. The network router in your neighborhood only sends packets to you that belong to you.
