Portal???? And More!!!

Kindly let me know what is Portal? How many types? What are the differences between them? And what is the difference between this portal and a WebSite?

Portal is just a word someone made up for a large website that has "everything you need" like news, weather, sports, email, search engine, shopping, chat. downloads etc. etc. etc.

examples are www.yahoo.com and www.msn.com and many many more.

Thank you for the answer. But i have one more doubt. If there is a web site which is related to (or concentrating on) only one particular concept, that means if go to that particular site, you can get what ever inf. related to that particular subject. Then what we can call this particular site?

"portal" is not some rigidly-defined word, you can throw it around however you like.

For instance, www.vb-world.net could be considered a "Visual Basic Portal" and www.sex.com could be a "porno portal"... you get the point
