    Re: Thread Rating

I guess its true purpose is to make others aware that it is a good thread. And might teach others something.

    Re: Thread Rating

You can see it in Codebank, but it isn't a really good indicator since few people use it.

Also, I actually don't think it's a good system. To advanced users, simple code might be worthless, though for beginners it's only useful.
And if it were used by more, people would start to ignore unrated threads.
Delete it. They just clutter threads anyway.

This is the only point that I've ever been able to see.

    Re: Thread Rating

As indicated in prior posts, the thread ratings are for indicating your opinion on the given thread. If a thread is rated as one star, then you can assume that someone (or mulitple someones) didn't care for the thread. That means you might want to avoid the thread. If a thread is rated four or five starts, then it might be a more interesting thread.

Like any type of ratings, thread ratings are subjective; however, the more people that use the, the more they will better indicate quality/interesting things.

Before 2 days a go, i saw a post which has no replies rated as 5 start. I thing the one who posted the question has rated it to deliver more attraction to his question

    Re: [RESOLVED] Thread Rating

Well I just (accidentally) rated one of my own threads with five stars. I think I'll see if I can do it again; after all it really is an excellent thread.

But can I do it for all my threads? If so, the present system is a complete waste of pixels. BB

    Re: [RESOLVED] Thread Rating

I personally have no problem with people rating their own threads.

The caution is that if you give a bad thread five stars, people who would normally have given it 3 are more likely to give it 1 or 2...... In the long run, it should balance out.

I think thread ratings is no bigger of an issue than allowing responses to three year old threads....

    Re: [RESOLVED] Thread Rating

Own up to it Brad: the rating system is flawed. If people can and do rate their own threads, all five star ratings look tacky whether self-awarded or not. I think people simply ignore the thread rating system rather take the trouble to vote low against a suspect rating. (You can't be sure it's not someone's genuine opinion, and most threads have at least some merit.)

Is the thread rating system important? Certainly not the way it is now. But it could be worthwhile if it worked properly.

    Re: [RESOLVED] Thread Rating

It is simply a feature of the forum software we use. Nothing more, nothing less

As with any rating system, it is only good if lots of people use it.
