    Resolved [RESOLVED] Parallel to USB

I'm building a gaming rig for my grandpa and he has an old printer he doesn't want to have to ditch, but the motherboard I'm really hoping to use doesn't have parallel support. I was wondering if this cable would be able to make it work on a USB port? If not is there any other solutions?

    Re: Parallel to USB

there are plenty of paralell to usb adapters available. my question is why you are going that top-of-the-line with a computer for him. I am quite aware that only high-end gaming motherboards come with only usb ports. Get a different motherboard with built-in parallel support. it will be faster.

It'll be for running games like flight sims at a high res, so a fast mobo is a must.

    Re: Parallel to USB

you should be able to find an equivalent board with a parallel port. Those are extra chipsets on the board and don't slow the board down. Are you looking at a fatal1ty board? if so it's overpriced. But anyway there isn't any good reason for them to leave the port off when boards with them have 12 usb hookups.

    Re: Parallel to USB

Lots of USB are quite important since he has a lot of USB peripherals, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for a mobo I like that has a parallel port. And peripheral speed doesn't matter over the parallel port - the printer only does 6ppm at best. I think I will just tell him it's time to upgrade to a new printer. And no - the mobo i the same one I built my computer with.

if it's a dot matrix he might have a reason to stick with it. I printed out over a thousand sheets of paper with one ribbon with my old ibm PPS 2380. How many hundreds of dollars in inkjet ink would that be?
