Re: PASSWORD on the BIOS
For that you should check the manual of the laptop, or the manufacturers web site - there will almost certainly be a fairly simple way to remove the password.

Re: PASSWORD on the BIOS
I never understood the purpose of password protected bios.
Older motherboards used to come with bios reset pins but most modern don't (probably due to cost cut).
In either case you could still remove the cmos battery for like an hour or so but had all power cables diconnected first.
There are plenty of instructions on line from all kind of techinical communities (including manufactrurers.
So if you google for something like "password protected bios" you will get like 100 pages...
Out of curiosity: how did you actually ended up with proteced bios?

Re: PASSWORD on the BIOS
Some people use the BIOS password to prevent boot up system using a bootable CD. If the password is there, unauthorized person can't change the boot sequence. I not sure how far it is reliable. Because just removing the CMOS battery everything is gone. I have done it couple of times.
So, remove the CMOS battery and after few minutes, fix it back.

Re: PASSWORD on the BIOS
Yes we do realise. Look at the manual for battery removal, or at least underneath the laptop.
The battery that we are talking about is not AA or AAA batteries. They are chunky things, like the image below. They are the reasons why laptops are portable.

Removing the laptop battery will not cause data loss on the hard disc, but it can remove the passwords. If it does work, you will need to set the date and time again, but it will not be a big deal.

Ya, it's not a case. Laptop or desktop, you can do that. Look at the image above.

Re: PASSWORD on the BIOS
This is the battery of the power but there is another battery that was installed on the Motherboard
I'm not sure this battery will remove the password , but I'll try

Re: PASSWORD on the BIOS
yes. but i have yet to see a motherboard that doesn't have a jumper right next to the bios or battery. you unplug the system, set the jumper, set it back, and the bios is reset. Older systems like rhinobull was referring to worked similar except that you had to set the jumper and leave it set and boot into the bios. Then you had an option to disable/erase set bios password.

Re: PASSWORD on the BIOS
If there is no jumpers, you can simply remove the battery and reset the bios, right?

Re: PASSWORD on the BIOS
there are always jumpers... You can't erase flash ram by unhooking a battery. Most systems have a few bytes of regular ram in the bios the battery keeps power to (not static ram) but you can't be sure the bios stores the password in it. I can't swear how easy either the battery or jumper would be to get to on a laptop though.

Re: PASSWORD on the BIOS
That's a new thing. In such a scenario I'm never worried on jumpers. Just remove the battery and fix it after few seconds. Never failed.

Re: PASSWORD on the BIOS
the reason for placing a password on a laptop Bios in particular is to stop theifs using the system . in some instances there are more password protection in the HDD to prevent access.
Some bios passwords also required a new Bios chip to be installed, and in extreem cases the laptop may have to go back to the manufacturer to be reset.
when i hear of ppl asking how to do this it is normaly because the laptop is a but hot to handle. only my opinion.

Re: PASSWORD on the BIOS
That is common for desktop as well. Only thing is that it is easy to remove BIOS password than System(OS) password. Deal with hardware.

Re: PASSWORD on the BIOS
software password isn't that hard either. Even an idiot can reinstall the OS, but there are tools out there that tell you your password. To be safe so you never have to do this, have two different accounts with administrator privelages. An admin can change the password of another admin.

Re: PASSWORD on the BIOS
I agreed with you. Normally reinstalling OS and go further is took a little more time. Removing the battery and turn on the PC is so easy. But he need to deal with crew drivers.
