    Um.. lol at this..

    Hi all,

Well, some of you may have heard of Whirlpool.net.au. Basically, its a website for people (mostly aussies) to talk about everything IT. Whether it be internet services, techy gadgets, etc..

Well, the owner of the site is being sued. Why? Some members of his forums have had bad experiences with a certain piece of software.. so that company is suing him for the threads/posts.

Its being spread around the internet now.. people are just laughing their heads off. This company wants $150,000 for the two threads in question.

If you want the full story.. and to see how many members are donating to the legal costs to fight this absolute crap..

    Whirlpool thread:

    Digg post:

    ..and its on SlashDot aswell..

I've also been told different media outlets have been contacted to cover this..

    Opinions?

My opinion is 2Clix just dug their own grave. By upsetting a regional IT community forum as large as Whirpool, none of the members will suggest use of 2Clix to clients as part of their solutions.

2Clix would have better been served by responding to the comments in the thread like most companies do if they decide to address public opinion comments at all.

This is why the civil court system is screwed up.

These frivilous lawsuits should be thrown out right away. Instead the system lets these stupid suits go to trial. The plantiffs are either retarded or know they can't win but is hoping for a settlement from the defendent.

The defendent loses no matter what. If he fights it in court, he keeps his dignity but gets slammed with lawyer bills defending himself, more than the cost of the settlement.

If he takes the settlement he's open to more lawsuits from profiteers and feels really dirty also.

There was a guy who successfully kept a 65 million dollar lawsuit about missing pants against a dry cleaner up for several years, bankrupting the defendents with legal bills.

Supposedly, the judge was going to order compensation from the plaintiff for the defendant's attorney fees.

They've certainly shot themselves in the foot.

Heaps of members have been donating between 5 and 100 dollars to help with legal costs. Although it may not help in the long run.. its a start. With that many members, the donations are bound to stack up..

Loving some quotes though.. "2Clix away from bankruptcy".. etc. The company won't last much longer after this.. I don't think.

They won't go bankrupt. All their customers are accountants. And accountants don't go to digg.com to save on bandwidth.

While that may be true.. there are many Network Admins and IT support people who are regular posters on Whirlpool.. and they range from tiny, and unknown businesses, to large ones (even my boss donated money..). I've seen the Network admins of some high rolling companies post on those forums.. these are people I regularly communicate with through email.

Its getting pretty big. Its front page news on Digg now, aswell as News.com.au, and countless others.
