    Expression

Find an expression in terms of n, for the nth term of the sequence 17, 14, 11, 8, 5, ...

    The answer is 20 - 3n

But I do not understand why the answer is that so could anyone explain it to me? Thanks a lot!
I really want to do well in maths. Please help and tolerate my stupidness.

    Re: Expression

17 is the first element of the sequence, so f(1)=17 and f(2)=14 .... f(5)=5.
If you put the n=1 into the formula you get 17
    .....
