Comcast Cuts Off Heavy Internet Users

    http://consumeraffairs.com/news04/20...ban.html?imw=Y

There's a limit on how much data you can download, but of course they won't say what the limit is...

And so another reason to avoid cable has been added to my already long list.

Not really. Just a reason to avoid Comcast.

    From the Article:
Michael, of Speedway, Ind., uses Comcast Internet to transfer large work files while his son uses it for school research.
Yea right ... I bet he's really downloading pr0n and pirated movies with bittorrent.

It does bring up the question: Are they going to cut you off even if your usage is 100% legit, for example using VOIP, terminal sessions with work, or subscription Internet TV and/or Music services?

What about constant FTP'ing for work? Or perhaps I'm just uploading files for my own personal website, and I happen to have some large files. What then? They gonna block my usage just because it's large?

There is a business reason for not telling where the line is.

If the line is known, everyone will brush up against it. Causing havoc on the Comcast networks.

The point of the line is to keep that problem from happening... I'm sure the networks can handle that line and more with no difficulty at all.

But if the line isn't known then you have no recourse when they say you are crossing it. What am I crossing?

If you use a lot of bandwidth for business purposes, and they cut your service, what are they supposed to say? "t3h n00b was teh dling pr0n lol and stufz." No. I was doing my job. And thanks to your stupid new policy, I can't do my job for another year. Thanks.

Great - more fodder for Net Neutrality. And thanks to the incapable hands of those in charge, why wouldn't they listen to an ISP? I mean, they own the internet, right? Who would be more unbiased and knowledgeable about opening up a second market than the ones who would gain the most from it?

I hate to even say it cause I know I'll regret it in half a decade....

    That's called overselling.
