    Resolved [RESOLVED] description below name

I know that the descriptions below names are automatic according to the number of posts or position in forum such as administrator. Like mine is Hyperactive Member. However, I've seen some people with descriptions below their names that aren't the "default" ones. How is this so?

    Re: description below name

Once you reach 2048 posts you become a PowerPoster and that grants you a few extra privileges such as a custom title, animated avatars, and the ability to delete your posts.

    Re: description below name

I figured that might be the case. I only have 400 something posts. Why doesn't it get lowered to 500?

Although I'm sure no one really cares, that post number got reduced from what it originally was. I don't remember the exact number, but when I first joined you needed over 4000 posts in order to get the goodies.

    Re: [RESOLVED] description below name

It used to be 4096 posts.

Be thankful that it doesn't involve any other conditions such as reputation or years of membership.

But the goodies aren't that good. However, I understand that certain requirements have been set, even though they are too high.

Oh, 1 more thing. Are the people who have "banned" on their description actually banned or did they just put that there?

Some words like 'Banned', 'Moderator', and 'Administrator' are censored in user titles, so the people that have them in their titles are actually what they say they are.

Then it doesn't matter that the necessary post count hasn't been reached.

2048 points is not too high. If anything, it is too low.

@ Hack - I guess it depends on the type of sites you're used to being a member of. These "goodies" are "common FREE goodies" (no requirements needed to be allowed to use them) on most sites, especially the social ones (yes, I know this is a programming site, not a social site). I guess MySpace spoiled me when I was a member of it.

I'm used to these goodies not requiring me to meet certain requirements. They are available to me from day 1. The better goodies which are also free are the advanced ones that let you decide who can view your post, who can reply to your post, delete your post, customize your post and so on.

So the goodies on these sites don't seem that worthwhile to have such a high requirement. At least to me.

@ shakti - the goodies are being able to put your own description under your name, have an animated avatar & delete your own post.

@ Hack - are you showing off how you can delete posts & edit their order? LOL. Anyways, it does matter because they should be default.

If we gave you everything on day 1, then what would you have to look forward to?

    Seriously -
We've found a number of new members tend to abuse things like custom titles and deleting their posts. As such, we found that putting off the ability to use these features until after they've been on the forum for a while actually prevents issues for the moderators. Whether 500, 2048, or 4096 is the right number is all subjective. We've normalized to 2096 and it seems to be appropriate at this time. I do agree with comments made, however, that we should consider adding time conditions (at least a year) and reputation conditions on it as well; however, for now we will leave that off since you generally can't get to 2096 without meeting any conditions we'd set in those.

    Brad!

Oh, I don't know. Maybe better goodies? My main thing is that the goodies on this site are default standards on others. So I find it extreme to ask for such high requirements when the goodies on this site are really bare bone goodies. I would understand the high requirements if the goodies were really good.

With that said, I know you guys aren't going to budge from your position. This could continue back & forth, so I say lets just end it here.
