Comcast
Maybe isn't so bad after all. Granted, their brilliant idea of the all-in-one gateways (modem and wireless router w/ 4 ethernet jacks in one box) isn't the best... the wireless majorly sucks on them. But my connection is advertised at 5Mb/s... when downloading larger files, the PowerBoost kicks in and jumps it up to around 12... can't really complain about that.

Macaw's story reminds me of the Argument Sketch...
"I told you, I'm not allowed to argue with you unless you have paid."
"But I did pay!"
"No, you didn't."
I had cable internet for about three days and spent them pulling my hair out trying to get my server to respond. Then someone mentioned that most cable companies don't allow servers. I checked the lengthy EULA that looked like it was written by a lawyer paid by the word and found something like "no servers of any kind allowed" and port 80 is blocked.
I went back to DSL. Slower, yeah, but half the price and no restrictions.

90 MBPS?
I don't even seen where Embarq advertises anything over 5 Mbps. And certainly isn't going to happen on a DSL line.
I have Charter, and they are a few notches below Comcast for customer service. So you can thank your lucky stars.
The best cable service I've had were TimeWarner and MediaCom.
In the case of Mediacom, they bumped the connection speed from 5mpbs to 10mbps just as goodwill gesture to their customers. And it was averaging 8.7mpbs - and I got the internet, telephone, and family digital tier cable package for $89 /mo flat rate - fixed.

Don't forget their 2GB monthly limit on newgroups with alot of rentention.
Bellsouth tried to compete, by offering no download limit, but their rentention is like 3 days.

My workplace has 32mbps - but I'm quite sure that's a fiber optic line.
I can only assume you would be paying over $1,000 a month for 100mbps/sec.

Re: Comcast
FiOS is only about 1/10th the cost of a T1 and many many times faster.
T1 is at the cheapest ~$525 month for 1500 KBs/sec
FiOS ~$39 month 8 MBs/sec

Im with a crowd called DigiWeb (Ireland). Ive got a 10GB limit and 3meg/ps (all i can afford at the mo! , Damn mortgage). I rang on the monday they came on tuesday and connect the whole thing and made sure it worked with every pc and pda i have (its wireless).
A while ago it went down and i rang the support team, a 2min wait and it was up again along with 2 months line rental. They are the best company i have ever delt with for anything!!! I love them!

I think the difference is T1 lines are dedicated, not shared, the speeds are bidirectional, and normally include at least 64 static IP's - which fit the bill for a business installation.

Re: Comcast
1500/1500 and only 8 static ips.
Whats the deal with FiOS? Is it not as dedicated?
8mb/2mb but not sure about the ip being static.
