Re: MS Udates
But of course. You really should at least have SP-2 on it, unless the XP CD was built with SP-2 already installed. You probably will have about 70 updates after that. Your call.

Re: MS Udates
you mean there are bad ass hackers with complete /-\wesomness capable of getting access to pcs without me knowing about it? what about internet security... can't a user just talk to the police or their isp and track the hacker back to source... not that i would btw

Re: MS Udates
Are you serious? Hackers can cover their tracks very easily.
It takes the FBI (for USA users) to analyze your infected or hacked hard drive in order to get some kind of direction but once they get it it still takes some time legally to get the info from the ISP etc.

Re: MS Udates
ah yes but how long would it take you to track one down Lets see how would one do it... sniff and trace infected ports... with access to the phone line and ip... 10 seconds tops with the best software?

This is all assuming, of course, that the IP you trace the hacker back to does in fact belong to the hacker and not to some poor unfortunate he's nicked it off either by compromising their PC or just stealing it outright,,,

Re: MS Udates
Most attacks don't come directly from hackers. They come from remote bot computers which the hacker has taken over. They say a determined hacker can take control of thousands of computers in a matter of hours, and use them all for bot attacks and such. Try tracing all of that to get something concrete.

A UDate is an unsigned date. it's a date which cannot be negative. In other words, a sure thing.

If Apple fixes security flaws, they are heralded as proactive. If Microsoft fixes a security flaw, they finally got around to fixing their buggy OS.
