Re: First Thread Ever (thoughts)
It really wasn't the first thread - even without taking into account the threads that have dissappeared (thru database failures, and server moves etc), there are some others which actually have an older post date on them.
There's no valid reason for opening that thread, as any new posts would trigger notifications to the people who have posted - probably to their annoyance.

Re: First Thread Ever (thoughts)
They could certainly unsubscribe from it.
It would be nice to preserve some history even if its all we have.
Certainly someone must have the very first post... even if is vBulletin's designers posting 'Test'.

Re: First Thread Ever (thoughts)
After 8 years you expect them to come back to the thread (and un-subscribe), just so that they don't get an email asking them to look at the thread?
How would re-opening a thread "preserve" it? You can still look at it as it is, and it wont be deleted.

This site was active (with other forum software) for a long time before vBulletin was started.

Re: First Thread Ever (thoughts)
Before JupiterMedia owned vbforums.com, it went through a bunch of major crashes and failures that lost a good number of posts.
One member lost something like 10,000 posts

Yep, it was nasty.. I lost over 3000 (and my username - different capitalisation) myself.
Thankfully JM have got a much better backup regime than we had back then!

Re: First Thread Ever (thoughts)
Here is the oldest one I could find. I know it is not the first. My first was compugeek and I realizing that we were probably the only two people in the world using IIS apps to build our websites. Unfortunatly my old user is unsearchable and apparently not even in the database anymore.

Wow Nov 1999. I remember driving around with a friend close to midnight 12/31/1999 wondering if the Y2K bug will hit.
Also Futurama just premiered that year.

LOL, It's even funner that you can look at the first ten posts and see when the major database crashes happend my looking at the User dates JUL 02 was wicked. that one lasted weeks if I remember correctly.
