Office Development - mark which app used
Would it be possible to have a user mark which office app they're using when posting in the Office Development forum? I know some posts involve more than one app, i.e Excel to Access, etc., but it's annoying to try to help someone for several posts, only to find out they're using Excel, for example, even though using db terminology (tables, queries, etc.)
Isn't something like this done for the .Net forums, where the user selects which version of .Net they're using?
Thanks.

Re: Office Development - mark which app used
With Office, this would get very complicated very quickly. Not only are there a number of apps (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Groove, etc.), but there are a number of versions. The possible combinations would require more choices than can easily be displayed within this forum's software.

Maybe a sticky thread in that section, advising users to specify the exact application and version, is in order.

That is a great idea. salvelinus, if you can create a list, or provide the information you'd like to see stated to people in this sticky post, then let us know and we will get it posted. It isn't the perfect solution, but it might help a little!

Re: Office Development - mark which app used
I liked the idea of at least just a core of office apps listed for manditory selection. You dont need to include the year or version as its for the most part all the same. Its just frustrating when someone doesnt mention which app they are using and you always have to ask.
I could write a sticky but I doubt it will be read/viewed much.

Something like:
Please select the Office program you're posting about. If your question deals with more than one program, select the one you're writing code in.
Access
Excel
Outlook
PowerPoint
Publisher
Word
Those are the only apps I tend to see. Never heard of Groove. If it can't be made a selection, the first line could be changed to
Please indicate which program you're posting about in the title of your post.

Re: Office Development - mark which app used
Thanks.
I was going to add the year versions too but thought it may be too much for a quick read or look more complicated. So just a blurb at the bottom about also including versions too. They can post that in the post text instead of the title. This way it leaves room for thread title descriptions
Edit: Its already working
