I remember when I was like you...a couple of months ago
I got Ubuntu and it had a nice and fresh touch to it. Then I realized that pretty much the only thing I could do was listening to music and browsing the web (and being forced to spend hours in the terminal just to try to make Wine work...bah). To play games, use visual studio or use pretty much ANY software I had to reboot back into XP.
Then I threw Ubuntu out the window.

I think you will return to us again soon

    Re: I've crossed over

    You've not crossed over until...

    1. You've got at least 1 server that doesn't have a GUI desktop installed. GUI's are for wimps.

    2. You've spent 15 hours on the trot programming C with a commandline compiler.

    3. You've developed a violent, rabid hatred for all things MS and all windows users.

    4. you don't even see the numbers any more.

    Your RAM

If you really don't want to repartition then use a virtual machine, the live cd is equally slow anyway and your settings/installs will be persistent.

You don't specifically need xmms to play mp3's, just those plugins (which in Feisty are 'auto-suggested' when you try to play a media file).

    Re: I've crossed over

Damn, i hardly have ram to run anything to begin with . VisualAd suggested i try the virual machine, but it said something about needing more space, so i scrapped it. I did download the plugins that it suggested and it played everything fine, but its just a pain to do every time i load it up. I might instal it on another machine, but for now, i'm enjoying playing around with it

Have you been to the Beryl Wikipages for the special flash effects. Note that you must install drivers for your graphics card.

For audio drivers (or for a lot of things), I'd advise using Automatix 2. It just makes installing some software so much more easier.

Right now, my X server has crashed on my PC, so I am forced to use Ubuntu without the GUI.
