Norton 360 Sucks
I am working on a customers computer. They bought Norton 360 which is nortons new "do all" product. Firewall, AV, etc...
Well after install, of course it wants to check for updates, so I let it. That was 3 hours (not joking) and 4 reboots ago... Guess what, it is still applying more updates.
The initial program installed 10x faster than the amount of time it has taken to install updates for it...
AVG takes all of 30 seconds at most to install updates.
I really have to wonder what Norton is thinking these days. A few years ago their products were pretty good.... If this customer had not already spent the money on this, I would have suggested they use a different product.

Today's antivirus programs are worse than the viruses that they are supposed to protect you from.
But such is the result of increasing the security for anything.

Yeah a decent virus will only use up most of your system resources.... Norton is using ALL the system resources.... go figure..

Re: Norton 360 Sucks
I hate Norton. My work machine is a Core 2 Duo, nice machine... except the AV runs so sporadically and high when it spikes it's crazy. That comp used to idle at 60% between the two cores. Talk about sad.

I use windows onecare, which despite its lack of customization, is pretty decent. I got a 1 year 3 PC license for 20 bucks for being a beta tester.
It isn't perfect, but it will get better with time I suppose.
The rest of the machines I have to put AV on, I generally use AVG.
I will never recommend norton to anyone ever again though...

I use onecare because it doesn't destroy your system and seems to integrate with windows better. Norton and mcafee feel like hacks.

AOL is the worst hack of all, not to mention it budles mcafee as well so it is a double threat.
Onecare does integrate well and I like its system tuneup feature, and even though its backup system isn't wonderful, I use it as an additional means of data backup from my work PC.

Re: Norton 360 Sucks
I attempted to use Norton Internet Security 2005 because it was free. Heaven forbid you don't have an email client installed. It let me know about once every 5 minutes with a popup i couldn't stop that there was an error launching the module that links with my non-existent email client. And why would it let me disable features for only 5 minutes (which it lied, they were still on)?

Re: Norton 360 Sucks
plus i had to do a system restore to uninstall it. And what's with all these "360" jump-on-the-cool-name-bandwagon things now? Yahoo has one too. I bet some of the less-fortunate-in-the-brains consumers have tried to install it on their xbox.
