    Re: Jupiter Images?

    umm....

Images are used for printed materials, on web sites, in ads, as avatars, and in a variety of other ways. If someone created the image, then they own it and thus it is theirs. Others cannot use it without their permission. In many cases, people will sell images they created. For each time you display the image, you'd pay a fee. For example, I might license an image to use in a brouchure. For each time I use the image, I might have to pay the designer a royalty. If I print 100 images, it might be $100 versus 1000 printings which could be $1000 dollars (assuming a $1 royalty per use).

Royalty free images is a different way of doing this. Instead of paying royalties for each copy I use, I pay an upfront fee to use the image as many times as I want. This might include a period of time or other restrictions, but basically, I don't have to deal with it being one fee for 100 uses or a different fee for $1000.

As an example, I did a presentation that needed graphics. I licensed a number of graphics of race cars and racing from a royalty free site. Instead of having to worry about paying a fee for each printout given of the sides and for each electronic copy of the slides, I only had to deal with the upfront cost of a couple of dollars. It was simpler and ultimately probably cheaper.

JupiterImages is a division of Jupitermedia that deals in royalty free images.
