PHP Forum -

I am looking to add a PHP Forum to my website.. Any suggestions on one to download. I am looking for something very simple, and that I can easily incorporate with my user table already. Also something that is easy to customize.

If not I might just have to code one myself..

phpBB is really cool, if you would rather have the reliability and speed of a professionaly board, check out invisionfree, thats also really good

There are way too many php forums out there, it's impossible for us to know which one would suite your needs. Your best bet is probably to read about them and try the ones you think you'll like.

Check out Simple Machines. Very easy to intergrate into your existing website

Yea, that is really what I am looking for, something to incorporate very easily. I can always find a good theme for one or just make my own.

I think Simple Machines is one of the best open source forums online.

Just a stupid question from a php noob:

Why is there so many pre-manufactured software (php forums in this case) while it so easy and good practice to create your own. (Not that I used or did either0

I mean, really, one always end up spending tons of time tweaking other's stuff. And if your reason is "I don't know enough" , why are you making a website in the first place?

Sometimes it is too time consuming to write your own code and do all the specifications and security of things online when someone else has already done that. You can always go back into their code and make tweaks to it if needed.

In this case, most of the forums have a standard that can be followed; with the layout, the user system, the forum system. Creating your own in this case is almost a waste.

Also most people are used to the pre-created forums and introducing them to your own custom one may take more time to get used to.

there are alot of people who buy domains so they can have their own forums and they dont know a lick of php, and just want immediate gratification. They either dont want to spend the time doing it, or they dont have the time do to it.

A real world example: Why do people buy cars when they can make their own?

A little extreme, but VERY true.

I mean there are those people who know how to program (mechanics, car producers, and car junkies) and they know how to do that. And it is a field that is very limited so maybe not too extreme. The only thing is everyone has a car. Not everyone needs a forum.

I like the example though.
