[RESOLVED] Auto reply for PMs ?
Is there a way to have an auto reply whenever someone PMs me ?
Is there a setting somewhere ?
I want to do this because I am really anoyed when someone PMs me asking programming questions.
I don't want to help people through PMs ! If soneone wants help they should post in the forums, and THEN PM me with the link to that thread asking me to help them there...
I want to help other people while helping one person. A thread will always be there... so when other people search on the subject they can see the thread, and get their answer, but you can't search through other people's PMs ! ... right ?!
[Edit] (To continue on that...)
In the past when I was asked questions through PM, I replied something like "Make a thread, and send me a PM with the link to help you there", most people read my message but did not do it... they did not post on the forums...

Re: Auto reply for PMs ?
Thanks, but there I can only disable the PM messaging, but I don't really want to do that... (not yet anyways... this does not happed too often, but when it does, it annoys me a lot)
An auto-reply would be better for what I want... or to write a message that they will see before sending the PM to me...

Re: Auto reply for PMs ?
I have a message that I store in a text file that I just copy and paste into a reply whenever I get asked questions via PM.
Its isn't an auto reply, but all I really need to do is hit the reply button, and copy 'n paste in the text and send it off.

You can do the same thing with an htm file and the valuable forum tool I mention in my signature. Then it's just a right-click away.

..or if you are using Firefox, you can use the VBForumExtension addon for a similar effect.
As your signature is relatively short, an alternative would be to follow techgnome's lead, and have a brief message in your signature. You could even have a link to an explanation (such as this one by Hack, which I use in my standard reply! ).
