    Forum slowdown

The forums seem to be pretty slow at times, especially when you're searching. I've had searches take several minutes to complete. I don't know if it's a lack of bandwidth, server limitation or something else. It is probably due all the people using this great resource all at the same time.

I know these are free forums so you can't expect too much, but I was wondering if there was anything I and/or other members of the forum could do to help.

    Just wondering.

Is the main slow downs you are experiencing in the search only? If so, then I might ask the admins or Joe to rebuild the search database this week-end.

The forum software indexes most words into a database for searching. As the site gets more posts, the database will get bigger; however, search algorithms should keep the response times low. Rebuilding the data; however, might streamline some indexing and such to speed things up.

If the slow downs you are talking about are more than just search, then this suggested change won't do the trick....

Yeah, the slowdowns I'm experiencing are when I search. Rebuilding the databases will probably help a lot.

I've found it's when I make more general searches that it gets worse (as can be expected). I don't know if there's anyway to speed those up because of the amount of hits.

I just did a general search for "VB", here's what I got.

No, slow downs are in any forum including the main page. Quite often I simply close browser - it's that bad.
For what it's worth - rest of internet is very fast - I mean lightning fast.
