    Resolved [RESOLVED] extended desktop

    i would like to have extended desktop.

    i am going to install another graphics card, what i would like to know is do i need any software and is this all i need to do.

    If you are running XP/Vista then just the secondary card or get a card that has dual monitor support is cheaper. Then in the display settings just check the box "Extend thie desktop to this monitor" or such.

    i already had the card from an older pc, its an AGP card. I installed it today, now my onboard graphics has stoped working, do i have to change a setting to switch it back on.

    You may have a busmastering issue. What is the other card PCI? Take the card out and see if anything shows in the event viewer.

    ive been on windows hardware troubleshooter and it could not solve the problem it did mention changing my bios settings which im going to do in a min.

    i have an integrated graphics motherboard and i have installed an AGP card. I looked in device manager and it seems to have uninstalled the onboard graphics and installed the AGP, how do i get it to install both.

    some motherboards simply disable the integrated video if it detects another AGP or PCI video card installed. You may be able to change this behavior in the bios, but its possible that this option is not in the bios. If this is the case, you are just out of luck trying to hook up two monitors this way. You could try to find a cheap AGP card that has two video outputs or you can buy a PCI card and use it along with the AGP card.

    thanks i think this is the case as in my bios settings it has init video with the options Onboard/AGP and PCI. I think just using a PCI card might resolve it.
