error with java command prompt?

Hi all can any one plz help me i need to compile and run my java code in command prompt windwon but when type javac *.java to compile all the file i have in the folder but it given me this error 'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file. even tho i have done the path setup and all that still dont know what is the oprblem i have create in system JAVA_HOME in my system variable C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_01 and also step up my path too C:\jdk1.6.0_<version>\bin; but still cannot make it work plz anyone help me thanks alot all.

C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_01 and C:\jdk1.6.0_<version> is not the same. Or are you sure you installed it on C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_01 and setup the Path variable to C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_01\bin?
