    Resolved [RESOLVED] suggestions please

hello..i'm supposed to develop a prototype system for my final year project in uni..i've thought of two systems, both web based, to develop:

    i. web based help desk
    ii. online nanny recruitment system

which one would be a better choice? i have to add enhancements to systems currently available. what enhancements am i able to add to both of these?

which tools and languages should i use?

    any suggestions will be appreciated..thanks.

i will go for the online nanny recruitment system...Why?

cause its not something you see around(compared to helpdesk system).

and language i would say you go for PHP

Without looking at the systems you are referring to that is impossible to answer.

What don't they do at the moment that would be nice if they did do?

Do you have two projects that you need to complete?

    Thats what it sounds like.

In that case, go with the Nanny one (although I have absolutely no clue what a nanny recruitment system application is ).

But, the way your first post was worded it sounded like you had to make a new project AND add enhancements to an existing one.

Anyway, whatever the heck a Nanny application is, find one, see how it works, make yours do the same things, and then add more stuff that the first one doesn't have.

do you know any new stuff i can add to a helpdesk system?

the nanny one is basically the same as any other job recruitment system. the only difference is that it focuses on babysitting jobs.

Not without seeing the help desk system you would be enhancing.

Babysitting?? Oh....I'd never heard of it referred to as Nanny before.

Do you know any of the people that currently use the help desk system to log calls? If so, ask them what they might like to see added to a new one.

    Re: suggestions please

Most of our members (myself included) do not, and probably never have, actually used a help desk system.

You said this is a project for your final year at university. Does your university have a help desk system? Do you know anyone that uses it to log trouble calls?

Someone that actually works on one on a day to day basis is the best source of information on this question.

    Nanny Help Desk system.

I mean, the nanny recruitment system. In ASP.NET. Add something good to it like a background reference check/system within for paranoid parents.

    Re: suggestions please

    Improvements to most helpdesk systems:

Intelligent eMail - send an email to the appropriate helpdesk person when a new job is entered. This would require looking for keywords in the job request.

Parse the "trouble" and don't allow "it's broke" types of requests. (A note that if the problem isn't properly [examples of proper and improper would help] specified, the priority goes to the lowest available [and that "lowest available" usually means days ... or weeks ... before the problem gets worked on] would aid this.)

Require input of device/program that the user is having a problem with, and valid contact information.

Don't allow the user to finalize the complaint entry if there are missing or incorrect items.

Just a few things off the top of my head from years of dealing with "but I don't have an 'Any' key" types.
The most difficult part of developing a program is understanding the problem.
The second most difficult part is deciding how you're going to solve the problem.
Actually writing the program (translating your solution into some computer language) is the easiest part.

Please indent your code and use [HIGHLIGHT="VB"] [/HIGHLIGHT] tags around it to make it easier to read.
