Oh please. In general if ad gives trouble to one user it's an issue already and must be taken care.
I have issues every single day but I am tired to report them so other peolple are as well I guess.
You know why, JP? Mainly because of resplies like yours. I'm sorry for saying that but it's the reality - I don't want to do nothing to my system but you mostly siggest to go and disable something.
You don't even know how much 2 Minutes Ads are annoying - entire page is delayed until that thing is loaded. And it doesn't happen once in awhile - it happens every time I see it.
Would you want us to report on that every time? You will need another forum just for that - you will be overwhelmed with number of complains.
So, rather than suggesting disabling some functionality in our environments the vendor should be contacted so they would fix their ad.
Best regards and no disrespect meant what so ever.
I've had quite enough of your whining since the upgrade. YOu've done nothing but scream and whine like a 10 month old with a loaded diaper. Now, here is an official warning to you, cease or get a forced vacation from this forum. Understood?
I'll turn task manager on and watch my CPU as well. If an ad is eating resources, then I'll do what I can to verify this and report it. We can often get the ad agencies to recode it. In general, most ads that eat up CPU cycles are a result of Flash issues (as was indicated). Even so, once I can confirm it is chomping the CPU, I'll get it reported.

I'm in my office today, so I'll leave Task Manager running with CPU performance showing to see if we can track down and destroy the issue.

See, I agree.... you need a new CPU to handle things since yours can't keep up
I've sent a message to our ad people and a high-level person to see if we can get the intel ad reviewed and fixed.

FYI - Our VP of sales had the ad removed until it could be fixed by the agency that provided it. (This happened a few days ago)

No, they want to make us think we need faster cpus Even with my fast processor it got hit quite hard. I know its probably very hard on you guys. I'm just glad we had a gread Admin staff to take care of our complaints

From what I could see, the browser was only using one core. The other 9% looked more like system processes.
I often experience the same with my hyperthreading core.
I don't understand...
The affinity is set to both CPU's and still...
Anyways, shouldn't an ad be checked before publishing on an adserver? Just wondering...
OK, there is a SEVERE bias towards that ad. Out of 9 refreshes across four tabs, I got that ad 8 times.. freakin pathetic. Considering just one instance will hog my CPU... just try and imagine what 4 of them are doing. Getting very irritating.

My understanding is that the ad servers are not always ours. Rather, we often point to the ad server that the advertisor is using.
For example, a company such as ABCo. might tell us to use xyz ad server from their ad agency. We have no real control over that server other than to be able to point to it (or to unhook it from our site).
We have ad specs and I'm sure our sales people present these to the companies. These are not developer types though, so they would not likely be looking at CPU usage when messing with the ads. What is ironic is that these ads end up on more than just our (Jupitermedia's) sites. I wonder if the other sites report issues with them too or if our developer forums just happen to be the vocal areas .
I will say that our sales team is much quicker to respond to complains than they were a few years ago. They take you guys seroiusly when you raise an issue about an ad.

I thought the Intel ad was one that was pulled until the agency could fix it. If you are still getting it and it is still eating CPU cycles, let me know.

Brad I can tell you first hand I just got that ad about 5 minutes ago and it was eating up 100% CPU on one of my cores, which would be 100% if I had a single core machine.

He does have a point though. You can't really expect people to disable flash completely just to be able to view this site comfortably. Unfortunately, many sites use it much to my disgust.
IMO, if an ad slows the page load significantly, it gets blocked.
I think it reflects badly against the company the ad is for when it doesnt run correctly. If they cant get an Ad to run correctly it would make me question their product quality. It would be better not to advertise in that case.

I wouldn't so much question the quality of the product,
but I might not buy the product just because of the annoyance of the ad
