CPU overheating issue
Im using an Intel Celeron 2.4Ghz CPU on an ASUS motherboard.
The problem is, everytime the temperature reaches 50 degrees celcius, my whole system becomes slow and jams up. The fan and all works fine.
Is there a way to fix it, other than getting a better cooling system. This is kind of my spare computer so I dont want to spend much.
Is it because of some software glitch? I installed the program that came with the motherboard, its called Asus Probe, thats where i monitor the temperature.
50 degrees is not that hot right?

Re: CPU overheating issue
Temperature is usually around 42 degrees. But if you use it for after an hour it reaches to 50. Once at 50 its jams up that i have to shut it down for some time and switch on later. But at nights it's slightly better since room temperature is much lower.
By the way I'm in a tropical country so no snow nothing...Can't afford an air conditioner as well.
But my Pentium 3 runs at around 36 to 38 degrees constantly

Re: CPU overheating issue
Ive been running my CPU at over 65 degrees for a couple years now, also in a tropical country .. anyway it should not be a problem, at least not that much of a problem .. my newer setups run just around 50 degrees, but this one i use is old.
Uninstall Asus Probe and see if it still does it.
BTW you mean Fahrenheit right?

Re: CPU overheating issue
I would think it may be a hard drive thermaling issue. I had lost several hds from eing in a hot environment but he CPU temp was never an issue at level higher then you posted.

Re: CPU overheating issue
nah, well could be, but mine is in the heat more than the AC ..
my place gets real hot where i can barely breath, and i leave the PC on 24/7 ..
though heat IS bad for the drive .. i doubt thats the issue ..
but worth a check also ..

Re: CPU overheating issue
Leaving the CPU(the side covers) open and dusting it regularly is a good practice for those living in the tropics.

Re: CPU overheating issue
Actually leaving off the side covers can make the system hotter since the airflow is destroyed. This also renders the case fans useless too.

Re: CPU overheating issue
Hmm buy something that isnt a celeron?
My CPU (AMD) is generally 65-75ish without trouble
I also keep the side off.. seemed a smart choice after that case fan decided it was going on strike.
50 doesn't seem overly hot, but I do have limited experience with celerons.
Hmm User: freeze_sr is having overheating issues.. bah ok enough of my sillyiness today

Re: CPU overheating issue
It is 50 degrees celsius, or 122 degrees fahrenheit.
I would think it may be a hard drive thermaling issue.
What does this mean? Is my HDD faulty or got to get a cooling thingy?
But I used this hard disk before with the p3 system no trouble at all.
Right now, i have both my side covers open, and have a table fan blowing directly into it, helps a lot. But not enough.
I will remove Asus Probe and see. Because each time the digit reaches 50, everything slows down, the mouse will not move properly, it jumps, sometimes wont move, my music that is playing stops, continues, stops, continues...

Re: CPU overheating issue
No overclocking. Just straight out of the box onto the mainboard. Using the same fan and heatsink that came in the box.

Re: CPU overheating issue
If you remove the cover, then point a big fan towards the CPU.
Using a BIG fan you could have more dust build-up under the mother board.
Normally the temp is 10-15 F greater inside than outside.

Re: CPU overheating issue
Have you mounted the cooler yourself?
You might want to check whether it's properly attached.
I experienced your problem too; turned out the cooler was not doing it's job.
Delete it. They just clutter threads anyway.
