Resolved [RESOLVED] [Win XP]How to hide drives from Guest Account but not to the Administrator's

My computer has 2 user accounts enabled; the Administrator and Guest.

I want to hide (or the best is restrict) my drive E: from the Guest account.
There are many files that I need to hide from the other users of my pc.

Re: [Win XP]How to hide drives from Guest Account but not to the Administrator's

Use a Local Policy but I wouldnt recommend having the Guest account enabled. I'll look on my XP system for the policy setting needed.

XP has less policies then Server OS'. What is E drive? Your CDROM?

Re: [Win XP]How to hide drives from Guest Account but not to the Administrator's

If its a CDROM then you can disable the drive.

Control Panel > Computer Management > Storage > Removeable Storage > Libraries > CD/DVDROM drive > right click on it > Properties > General tab > uncheck "Enable Drive" > click OK.

Re: [Win XP]How to hide drives from Guest Account but not to the Administrator's

I enabled Guest account for anyone who want to use my PC.
They were all restricted to do changes but not the drive E.

Drive E is the 3rd partition of my Harddrive w/c contains lots of files.
    Around 170GB of files.

    Open Windows Explorer.
    Click the Tools.
    Click Folder Options.
    Uncheck Use Simple File Sharing.

Try using Sharing and Security again.

Once Advanced security and sharing is set you should get a security tab similar to this where you can deny the read permissions for Guest account.

If you check the "Read", "Rean & Execute", and the "List Folder Contents" under the Deny side for the Guest user account, that will do all that you need. It will be visible as a partition letter but they wont be able to access or see anything inside it.

Click the Add button and select the Guest user account so it affects only that account.

    Thanks guys.
    It works.

Now, no one can view my 'files' stored there.
They aren't porns; just some anime tv series in RMVB format(around 40GB), Japanese mangas (around 200MB), Music Videos (around 2GB), Funny Videos (around 10GB), some installers/utilities/updates/OS (around 80GB), and projects (around 10GB).

This PC I'm talking about is now in our office so it is expected that someone want to use this that is why I want to secure my files.

Actually my question is partially resolved, it is still viewable.
Is it possible to hide it too.

Re: [RESOLVED] [Win XP]How to hide drives from Guest Account but not to the Administrator's

You cant hide the drive under XP but definately under one of the Server OS versions.

Best and easiest solutions is to get a USB jump drive and move all your files to it. Then take it with you so no one else can access it.

I can do it for my files but it consumes lots of time.
I want everyone to be clueless what I am hiding.

create your own wrapper program, that is always hiding .. waiting for changes to certain directories .. when there is a change or added file add that file to a default exe based on a template and delete the old one, rename this as that old one .. the exe template itself would extract the file, but only after you enter a password ..

Course this could be slow if its always monitoring alot of folders ..
the add and extraction code i have, you find the rest and we are good to go

    It is a long process.
Securing my drive is almost enough.
I just want to make others think that there are only 2 harddisk drive/partition.
