Introduce "On The Spot Fines" For Any Cyclist Caught Using I-Pod/Mp3 Player Geffrey G. Carson 16 March 2007 1

Holy sheit. Sorry, Im not living in the UK right now but I'm stealing this petition, changing "Using I-Pod/Mp3 Player " to "Wearing head to toe fluroescent spandex" and starting my own new cause.

OH YEAH!!!

When I lived in Florida, there was a woman who went out walking in hot pink spandex. Now, on some people, that wouldn't be so bad, but she could have carried one of me in each saddle bag, and I'm no runt. It was a sight to see.

I actually met her later on, and she was quite a nice woman, but what ever prompted her to dress like that was beyong my comprehension. I suppose it was just the whole Florida experience, cause I was waiting at a bank one morning when I saw a guy walking his dog. He was around 40-50, was very fat, incredibly hairy, slightly sweaty, and was wearing nothing but a pair of flip-flops, a cigar, and a speedo.

There went a man without a care in the world.

I'm in favor of cyclists not being able to wear iPods/mp3 players. They're bad enough as it is without the extra distractions. I'd also like for them to be given on the spot fines for running red lights, failing to yield the right of way, riding on the pavement, etc.

I don't know about the laws ovr there, but everything you listed is legal in parts of the US. Riding on the sidewalks is illegal here, though fortunately, it isn't enforced in all places. Red lights and stop signs do not necessarily apply to cyclists, though many drivers think they do (including me, I was amazed to find out that cyclists don't actually have to stop). As for failing to yield the right of way, bikers generally only get to try that once.

In this country cyclists are expected to stop at red lights and stop signs and yield the right of way on roundabouts and at junctions. Even in Texas this was the case; I've never lived anywhere where it was OK for cyclists to run stop signs; that's insane.

Well, I'll just tell you that the last three States I've lived in require bicyclists to follow all the normal rules of the road - so an Idaho bicyclist on vacation must have a statistically higher chance of being fined for a 'rolling stop'.

Riding on sidewalks is determined in most US States by local municipalities. Most states give that governing authority to the local level.

Considering that this state seems to have a higher proportion of incredibly ignorant people than anywhere I have ever lived, I would think than an Idaho anybody on vacation would be statistically higher to be turned into a statistic.

It is the only state that likes Bush at this point.
