Vista and IE7
If Vista is installed on a new machine (not upgrading - new install) can IE7 be uninstalled and be replaced with IE6?

Hmm, I doubt it as its not displayed in the Control Panel but then again its not something I would want to try

If you removed IE7 from vista would there be anything left of the operating system?

Nope, but if there is any possibility it would be to downgrade to IE 6 which I would guess wouldnt be compatible on Vista.

Re: Vista and IE7
Proof yet again that Vista is inferior.
Why do I get the feeling you won't be able to downgrade to WMP10, which is far superior to 11?

Re: Vista and IE7
How on earth would that make Vista inferior? You mean it should let you use an older less secure browser version just to please you. But then when you get hit with a security breach you will cuss at Vista?

Re: Vista and IE7
you can install XP without the IE core .. but you will get errors when trying to run certain admin tools and other programs ... maybe the same for vista. Remember since Win98, IE has been a core part of the OS .. not just the OS though .. MSN IM uses it, along with other MS and non MS programs.

Re: Vista and IE7
In the Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off there is not option for anything IE releated nor in the Programs and Features (where installed progframs are listed). so more then likely its not possible.

Re: Vista and IE7
Same thing in XP, but little known secret, is you can install XP without the IE core .. also even if something is not listed in the Add/Remove Programs list, you can add them back in the sysoc.inf file, by deleting "hide" .. then you can uninstall them from the add/remove programs list as they will now appear.
Ideally when you install XP you can set up a "special" CD which doesnt even install the IE core or others, much like how Embedded XP has special preinstall options. Check out Vlite for Vista. However, I would leave the IE core as there are too many errors without it, at least on XP.
