    Re: About Domain Name Registrars

I have always used NetWork Solutions (NetSol.com) ..
not the cheapest but very professional.
Been using them from my first website, back around 1998.

    Re: About Domain Name Registrars

Networksolutions.com is great but probably the most pricey registrar around. There are other registrars around that offer most of the same features and services as them so just shop around.

Ps, I use them too for about 5 years now. Just very slow when it comes to tech support or if there is an issue with hosting services.

    Re: About Domain Name Registrars

I don't use them for hosting myself, had some initial issues when they switched over a few years back (when all the other companies started to branch out) .. but since then its been fine. I currently have 6 domains under my account with them, and have set up several others over the years.. but yeah they aren't the cheapest.

    Re: About Domain Name Registrars

Then what do you think is the best one?
I think I want to stick our domain name to our server and not url forwarding.
    I'm really noob about this.

I think what I need is a full control of our domain name.

    Re: About Domain Name Registrars

You get full control with NetSol, but im sure that is the same with others.
URL forwarding is something different though and can be done by the hosting company and also using free services like Zone Edit.

the best will depend on yourself .. needs etc ..
also you may be looking for a special domain name (.mycountry, etc) and would need to look elsewhere for those.

    Re: About Domain Name Registrars

Cant help you there, i outsource my hosting .. too much internet downtime on this island. Never used Win2003, but in IIS you can assign Ports to Websites. So I imagine you could set a separate port for each website and forward the domain name to your IP and the specific port. Never got involved in Domain Name Hosting so cant really help there, sorry ..

    Re: About Domain Name Registrars

cheap and easy way to do it is ..
    ZoneEdit.com ..

Register a Domain Name with whichever Registrar you want ..
Sign up for free with Zone Edit .. assign : (the following may differ)

    NS7.ZONEEDIT.COM
    NS12.ZONEEDIT.COM

to your domain name in the Registrars DNS Edit section ..

then in your Zone Edit account you can assign the Domain name to a specific IP address and port ..

So if I go to NetSol for my domain name; I can stick it with our server's IP, right?
Our dedicated server will host our WEB Site and E-Mail.

If you go with any registrar you will be able to. It's a matter of going with a registrar that you can rely on. Netsol is one example, godaddy.com is another (very popular) option.

    Re: About Domain Name Registrars

I'll repeat, all registrars provide you with the same kind of configuration options. You can specify different types of records such as MX records, A records, name servers, etc.

As for multiple domain names pointing to different websites on your IIS box, that's a matter of IIS configuration. You specify the host header that it should expect, and IIS does the handling for you.

We can help you to configure it, you can even show us the screens you need to fill out with the information you have already. Just don't give us your password.

    Re: About Domain Name Registrars

    Ok I know it.
But my new problem is, I've already got a domain name from ValueWEB but it was hosted by TuCows.
I can't modify it because the username and password the give is different.
    GRRRRR!!!!

Damn, they don't have control panel for our domain name.
I think should transfer it to other DNS hosting company.

    I need to configure it.

    Re: About Domain Name Registrars

Call tech support at whichever company you're going to use and ask them to transfer it for you. I've had to call GoDaddy's tech support a few times - because I suddenly went stupid - and they were very nice and very competent. And they never laughed at me, although they should have.
The most difficult part of developing a program is understanding the problem.
The second most difficult part is deciding how you're going to solve the problem.
Actually writing the program (translating your solution into some computer language) is the easiest part.

They don't allow me to modify our dns.
    What should I do?

I am thinking of transferring it to other registrar.
    Is it right?

    Re: About Domain Name Registrars

Not sure about godaddy but some low cost registrars do not allow you to transfer your domain name out. So if they dont have all the support you need you may end up getting trapped. You get what you pay for.
