Deployment question
This question might be a stupid one...
In order for me to run my VB.net program on another machine, besides creating the setup.exe file (assuming I use the tradictional window's installer method) and msi file, do I need to copy my database, images etc over seperatly besides runing the setup.exe, or the installer will populate these for me into the right directory during installation?
Thanks.

Re: Deployment question
The installer will do what you tell it to do. If you tell it to copy your database and image files to the target machine then that's what it will do. You use the File System Editor to specify which files to install to which locations.

Re: Deployment question
Thanks JM.
I did some research and tried to play with the File System Editor but only managed to figure out how to add file and folders under the application folder. What happen if I want to add a database to another drive? Another question is, do I need to add bin/My Project/obj/Resources directories and their contents under my project folder?

Re: Deployment question
If you don't know the target location at design time you could install your database to your program folder during setup and then use a Custom Action to move it to a location specified by the user.
You don't need anything from the obj folder.

Re: Deployment question
What do you mean by "use a Custom Action to move it to a location specified by the user"?
Thanks.

Note where that topic is in the index and all the other useful topics in the vicinity. Good old MSDN.
