Never delete a program?
Hey guys, I was wondering if its possible to have a feature where the program can never be deleted. I am not trying to create a virus, but I'm just trying to make it so the user can't delete the software off his/her computer. This software is basicly a "anti-cheat" program for a game. And i know all the "cheaters" would love to find any way possible to delete this program.
So is there anyway possible?

MadMike111:
Wouldn't that be nice.
I give you or sell you some software and you load it, but you can never unload it.
You could probably make it real difficult to delete, but ultimately all they have to do is to wipe the harddrive.
I don't think you would have many people who would install it in the first place if they were going to have a problem with deleting it.
The World is full of "cheaters" and in the long run they usually end up cheating themselves.
Good Luck

You might implement it into the code that it has to pull certain data out of the file or whatever or else the game won't run?

lol, I can see why it does, thats why i tried to say explain whats the purpose. But yea, I'm just trying to eliminate all ways of the user to delete a software, like if they delete it, it will automatically pop up or something, No idea where to start.

How does your anti-cheat program get installed?

Its just installed normally and what i was thinking was installing a seperate program along w/ this anti cheating device. This program will just keep a constant check if the program still exists, and if it doesn't it will send a warning out to the Game Ladder which i am creating this software for. Does this sound like a logical way of doing this?

It makes me feel insecure by just reading about it - that's basically how spyware were born. I would seriously recommnend to drop this idea or will get yourself in trouble with The Law.

Yea, I can see how you are receiving the wrong signals, but believe me, this is far from a virus. I really don't have any way else of explaining it srry.

Re: Never delete a program?
You could periodically check for the checksum of the original exe and the current one to see if it has changed.

I don't have the same unease as RhinoBull, but you should consider his statements from a different vantage. Since such a program would be SO valuable for nefarious purposes, wouldn't you expect that somebody would have done it by now? Niches don't remain unfilled for long, either in biology or in computers. Think of an example of what you are trying to do, and if you can't, it may be that it can't be done. However, I can think of several classes of programs which have done things like what you are talking about, and NONE of them are benign. Consider the SONY root kit, worms, spyware, etc.
In the first case, the company was not malicious, but look what happened to them when they were discovered. They have not yet recovered.
For both of the other two cases, there are entire industries built around going after them. I have to agree with RhinoBull that going down this road will cause you grief. You may not violate any law, but you will almost certainly lose what matters most for your future sales: Your good name.
My usual boring signature: Nothing

Mhm, good points, but, I am doing this to save this "ladder", not to hurt it, so i do have very good intentions, although I can see where your coming from.
