[RESOLVED] Proper category for an "Artical"
I want to put an article here on this forum, as well as I want to add a link to that thread on my signature.
Under which category should I put that article?
It is about general discussion about searching the web.

Re: Proper category for an "Artical"
Moved to Forum Feedback - which is where forum usage questions should be.
It depends on what kind of thing you are doing.. if it is a tutorial then we have a Tutorials section in the UtilityBank, otherwise General PC is likely to be the best place.

If it is a code-centric article (meaning has code and is focused at programmers), then you should also post it at Codeguru.com. You can link to articles on Codeguru.com from this site as well.

Re: [RESOLVED] Proper category for an "Artical"
I've posted a few 'articles' (in quotes) on threads in this forum. If I turn it into a properly formatted article, can I post that on codeguru.com?
Do the articles on codeguru.com go through an approval process?

Yes, and yes. If you format them into a proper article, you can definitely post them on Codeguru. And, yes, there is a set of reviewers that go through all submitted articles before they get posted onto the live site.

Another question, is CodeGuru a favorite over VBForums in JupiterMedia's world? I ask because CodeGuru has this article submission feature, but VBForums doesn't.
(Despite the fact that VBForums.com is much better than CodeGuru and has prettier members.)

VBForums might have "prettier" members.....
The Codeguru site is much bigger overall. VBForums, however, is not small. I wouldn't say either is a 'favorite' as both are very well liked . Codeguru started as an article site and thus has the article features. VBForums is (as the name implies) more of a forum.

Actually it is about the tips, which can help you to find that how to do a best key-word search done on the engines like Google, MSN, Yahoo, etc...
So where should I put that my article.
Any suggestions.

There is a whole big are on Codeguru for VB. It would be easier to "take that section over" than to start a new site
And the site name of VBForum strongly implies that this site is primarily a forum....

Ya, it's true. I'm just worried about that, where should I put that article. I know this is a forum, which going to work with each other to develop there skills in lots of areas.
If there is place to put those kind of things here in the forum I think it is better, because at the same time we can get the others feedback on here as well.
What you think of that.

Re: [RESOLVED] Proper category for an "Artical"
brad (or anyone else who wants to an answer),
what makes an article an article as opposed to a tutorial, or something you might see in out codebank, or just a piece of c0d?
or am i being overly semantic...

Re: [RESOLVED] Proper category for an "Artical"
I think an article is a superset of tutorial. An article may not just be about a set of steps to follow, but can be a commentary or your opinion on certain methodologies you employ in your coding.

Re: [RESOLVED] Proper category for an "Artical"
I have no trouble with articles being posted on this forum if they are posted in an a ppropriate place. Such articles can actually be posted both here and on Codeguru as well (for added exposure if you want).
To partially answer another question that was asked --
A tutorial is a type of article that focuses on teaching something. If something is an article, then it is implied that it will present information on a topic. A code snippet without explanation would not be considered an article, but rather a code snippet or example. If textual information is added to a code snippet to explain what it does along with information such as why or where you would you the code, then it starts to become an article.

I agreed with you. As you said it is just a guidlines for key word searching. So I think that here in VBForum is not any proper place to that. Only thing is go to the Codeguru. Is it

On this site, articles go in the UtilityBank (http://www.vbforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=61). On Codeguru, you can register, then use the "Submit an Article" link on the navigation bar on the left side of the main site page (www.Codeguru.com).
