[Project Idea]To Many Icons!
Hey, Im getting fustrated my the amount of icons crawling over my Desktop cource I use them all very much. But my desktop is getting kinda full. (Maybe you reconize this problem.)
My idea was to develop a Program that shows what files are in a Folder and Start them.
Let me explain my Idea.
I want to develop a program that runs on the background (So a low CPU/RAM usage) That shows when I move my cursor over a Folder (On my desktop) It will show a dropdown menu with the files and folders in it. I want to give the dropdown menu also a Pin Function so It doesn't disapear when I remove my mouse from the icon.
This program will Fix My problem. It will able me to trow all the Icons in diffrent related folders and Clean my Desktop a little..
The problem is...
I've NO idea were to start coding..
Language Selection: VB, C#, C++ or Basic (Very Low) Assembly.
I think I'll go for C++ then.
Ok next.. Where to begin. Do I need API to show what is in the folder or?
Does Anyone know were I Can Start with such program. Or already knows such a program so I Dont have to Develop one my self?

Not to discurrage you but I find it annoying to have all kind of tooltips, popup menus, etc, etc, etc "popping up" all over the desktop so if there is an option I would always turn it off regardless. So I voted "Maybe.. Guess for no"...
btw, the better place for your pool could be General Dev forum.

Also, you can organize your desktop icons by groupping them into a folders with meaningful names.

Re: [Project Idea]To Many Icons!
I think it is useless to create a program for this.
What I have done for myself is that just create a folder and change it's icon to an appealing one. Also customized the folder to set a good background etc.
Then I moved all my desktop icons into it. Whenever I install a new program which creates a desktop icon, i just drag it into that folder. simple.
This way I don't need any program to manage it and not cpu time wastage.
Double clicking a folder is just as easy as moving mouse over a folder.

I completely agree.. I have about 10 folders which contain virtually all of my shortcuts (with sub-folders if apt).
As Pradeep said, it's not much harder to actually open the folder.

Indeed it would.. moved.
