LOS ANGELES--Sun Microsystems announced Wednesday at Internet World that it is shipping its Java Web Start software, which allows users to launch Java applications without worrying whether the Java platform is compatible with a particular Web browser.

We could do with more stuff like this, and then strip basic browser capabilities down. This might relieve M$ stranglehold on the browser market (see the Hate Netscape thread in the internet forums)
