Resolved [RESOLVED] DVD iso to Multiple CDs

Does anyone have any recommendations for some software that can split a DVD across multiple CDs yet still function as the original DVD. This is not a video or data DVD, its Windows Vista RTM all versions on the single DVD.

Either a cheap pay version or freeware program is ok.

    Thanks

Re: DVD iso to Multiple CDs

If you want it to install from those CDs i don't think that's possible, but if you just want it for "Installing" purposes the best you can do is split the ISO into different RAR files (Winrar), 700 MB each, then copy each to a CD. Winrar will also join the whole ISO back when you decompress, asking for each CD until it's done.

Re: DVD iso to Multiple CDs

Yes I want to install it from the CDs but probably wont be able to as I dont think it would end up being functional.

I have been looking at Roxio but it doesnt say anything about being able to go backwards. They say multiple Cds to a DVD but dont say I can split a DVD up to multiple CDs.

Probably have to switch the DVD burner in my new system over to my old system where the iso is located. Then I will just need to buy or get the burning software. Doing it this way, which software would you recommend as its my first DVD burner (OEM no software included).

Is it expired already? May 1, 2006?

    30-day trial, installable until May 1, 2006
They are both the same price but which is better - roxio or nero?

Re: DVD iso to Multiple CDs

Just got back from the store and bought some blank DVDs. Now I have to move the DVD burner over to my old system and burn the image.

Just keeping you up to date.

Just for future reference, if you have the hard drive space I would recommend IsoBuster. It extracts the files from the ISO so you can repackage them or run directly from your hard drive.

Re: DVD iso to Multiple CDs

But it wouldnt work as there is no way to get the file over to a brand new system. Also, repackaging the massive image to multiple CDs probably wouldnt have left it functional as the one image is a compilation of all of the Vista release versions as MS did not make available to me any CD iso's

Re: DVD iso to Multiple CDs

I have been using Nero for the past 6 years and it just gets better with every version. It was an OEM package of course.

Alcohol 120% is a nice program to manipulate iso's .

As far as Repacking the iso is concerned .Is the structure of the vista iso same as that of an xp install cd?
Xp's dir struct is something like
    +Components
    +Docs
    +Extras
    +i386
    |+ASMS
    |+Compdata
    |+Lang
    |+System32
    |+Upgrade Folders
    |Hige list of files...
    +Support
    +ValueAdd
    Setup.exe
    Win51
    Win51p
    Win51p Sp2
and other setup related htm files.

Re: DVD iso to Multiple CDs

    Robert...

The VISTA ISO is too large for a CD?

I use DAEMON tools to work my MSDN subscription ISO files - nicely creates virtual CD drive on the machine - mounting the ISO file.

You could just use a tool like this and put half the folders on one CD and half the folders on another CD. Then load the whole mess onto the target machine and install from disk.

This MS site talks about DAEMON tool...

Re: DVD iso to Multiple CDs

I'll check it out Steve as I already installed my dvd burner in my old system where the iso resides. Now I just need a burning program to burn the iso with.

@litlewiki, its just under 3 Gigs and contains all 7 versions of Vista. Depending on your serial number will tel it which version to install.

Re: DVD iso to Multiple CDs

The nice thing about the DAEMON tool is that the ISO file appears as a E: or F: drive - so that the burning tool you use simply is copying from one DVD to another DVD.

The burning program doesn't even know it's an ISO that it's coming from...

    and the tool is free...

Re: DVD iso to Multiple CDs

I just downloaded the resource kit and used the command line dvdburn.exe to burn the 2.7 Gig iso image in < 4 minutes! That was so fast that I didnt believe it burned it, but rather just initializing the media!

Time to do some other chores and then its back to installing on my new system. Finally!

    Thanks

    Excellent...

That DVDBURN tool didn't like the DVD writer on my laptop - that's how I ended up with the DAEMON tool option...

Nero too has an integrated daemon tools feature wherein one can mount iso's onto virtual drives. It also supports all kinds of dvd formats.

@RD There is this software called nlite which can create custom installations from the original cd.It currently supports Xp though but vista support should be added soon.

Re: [RESOLVED] DVD iso to Multiple CDs

Vista should eventually come out in CD version.. which IMO is much more hassle than the DVD

also, I'd recommend installing it on a spare system until you're confident you can get all your must-have programs working

My new system is all Vista certified. I still have my current system which runs XP and all my programs. So if it works out well with vista then I will use it as my new main system.

Got sidetracked working on my house this weekend and didnt even get online all weekend. Will try today to load it.
