    Cool

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows of a good DOS tutorial. I've always been intrigued by DOS but find myself nearly helpless beyond the cd command. Any suggestions?

    Try used book store.

There should be a lot of good books available cheap in used book stores.

MS produced a "User Guide and Reference" for version 5.0, and probably for later versions. It contains about all you need. It is more than a syntax manual.

There were a lot of other good books published, but the MS one is the only one I have kept, and I forget the names of the others.

Some of the DOS commands are still handy for use with Windows 9x. More out of habit than necessity, I still use Diskcopy with the verify option for making Diskettes backups. I never bothered to learned how to do it under Windows 3.x, and 9x.

    (thirty seconds pass)

well, it worked this time. go figure.

    (another few minutes)

this looks more like a help site. do you know of anything that has a start-at-the-beginning tutorial. (or if the site has one somewhere)

    DOS for Dummies?

There might be a DOS for Dummies book, but the MS Guide I mentioned in previous post should not be hard to work with. It is not like the VB language reference, which pretty much gives the syntax, and you have to work out how to use it. It includes a syntax reference section, which is also important to have.
