Need career advice
Hello,
Recently I cleared the MCP exam (Web Dev. using ASP.Net and C#.Net) and I am looking for a job. Today, my friend told me about a vacant post in his office but they work on PHp and MySQL. I have not much working experience in/with .Net thing right now.
Now I am double minded whether I should join it or not because I want to stick with .Net (probably I have started loving it now), and if, in future when I wish to apply for .Net job somewhere else, could I be asked about it like Why you opted PHP when you have .Net as your speciality, etc and all that?
Well, my head says, join it, better to do something rather than doing nothing, but I am quite paranoid about not getting .Net job. What if I never get .Net job in future??
Though I am still waiting for confirmation from my friend's office and I think I could make it in, so I just wanted some advice over this issue.
Please!!
PS: I request all Indian members here if they could help me.
Thank you.

If you're desperate for some income then consider that job at least termporarily so you can still looking for dream one but while working.
And don't you worry about not getting the .Net job - there is plenty of them.

A job is a job .. if I was to get paid and have to learn the same time .. id take it in a flash (if it paid enough to pay the bills) .. the other future employers shouldnt have any issues with that .. they would be pleased to have someone that knows more than one language .. . heck if cleaning pools paid the bills and i was offered that job .. id take it . I'd think most employers want real world experience anyway, and this sounds like a good way to get that.

I'm with Rhino: .NET jobs are everywhere. Hell, .NET itself is pretty much everywhere now.
Variety in experience is good, it shows versatility and a willingness to learn.

Thanks to all. They could call me in the first week of November, late by second week.
I think I should join it, and will try for .Net job simultaneously.
@Shakti, Yeah, I have been a member of all these stupidities for past 1 year, and they seem to be really [sarcasm] helpful [/sarcasm].

One thing to consider, if this friend will be made to look bad for referring you and then you quit soon after finding a .NET job. May not be good for him.
.NET is everywhere like already posted. C# is the hottest currently for some time now.

Re: Need career advice
Well, I'd say that you need to consider the things that all the other people already mentioned. At the end of the day, it's a job and you need to weigh your need for one, the job's pay and the chance that you'll be unemployed for some time if you pass this up to get a better one.
I'd be more weary of the fact that it's a friend that refered you. Your performance or possible short stay (because you may find a more dot-netified job) will have an effect on your friend. I think that it would be a bad move to accept their offer and start looking for another job from day 1 - however, the need to pay the bills can easily override this but in your shoes I'd level with my friend if I were to take this job temporarily. On the other hand, good people can get job offers that entice them to leave their current job and it's something that all employers should keep in mind anyway.
You never mentioned anything about what the company does and if there's a serious career path involved - I think that should be taken into account. For example, it's one thing to join an outsourcing company that uses "resources" to continuously create one php-based portal after another. It's quite another thing to join a small company that now has a vacant php slot but offers a clear career path for good people (btw, I have yet to encounter a company whose upper management doesn't say that there's a career path involved, even if it's clear that they're talking bull and they only plan to make you work stiff then throw you away when the particular project is done ).
All in all, it's one of those decisions where everybody says that only you know what's best after you consider all the facts. BTW, it may seem so now, but after a few months/years you may realize that you could just as well flip a coin to decide . Just make your way, stick to your choices and forget about regrets.

Re: Need career advice
My friend is no problem. He himself is quitting this job in a month's time or so.
Thanks for suggestions. Let me wait till the interview takes place.
