Well I have thought about it long and hard and I think the Nickelback songs I am listening to most are 'Breathe' and 'Cowboy Hat'. So I guess they must be my recommendations They're all pretty good songs though.

Also, since you mentioned that you were a fellow riff ***** you might check out Lost Prophets - Shinobi Vs Dragon Ninja, it's got a pretty cool intro. The intro is the best bit though. While I'm on the subject of riffs, there's a pretty cool bit in Machine Head - Davidian, nearish to the end of the song (I just checked and it's at about 3:38 into the song).

Well there are more cool riffs I could come up with if you want, but I'm not sure how metally you like your metal, if ya know what I mean

My favorite metal band is Metallica.

On the subject of riffs, one riff i like - while definitely not metal - is in Can you take higher, or the song with those lyrics if that's not the name. After the lead guy sings "Can you take me higher...", the lead guitar does this cool little doo-doo-when-oo-wa-wa-doo thing. I know that looks really funny but it's not easy typing a guitar riff. Anyway, that's my two pence.

What's most important about music (to me) is the feeling, emotion and groove that the combined sound of the band/group generates.

Lyrics are very low on the priority list because as far as I am concerned, very few singers have anything interesting to say anyway and I just view them as another instrument.

Riffs can be important and usually, they are what first attracts you to a song. I think you need more than a good riff to give a song lastability though.

I once saw/heard a singer...sing a fast beat...
When I listened to what he was saying...It felt disgusting.
All he was singing was f**k you ass h**e.
At that Point of time I really lost Interest in Western Music.

There's so much crap 'western' music (and I assume you mean 'western hemisphere' as opposed to 'country and western') that you have to dig deep to find any good music.

There is good though, it's just a matter of whether you can be bothered to search for it!

Yeah, 'western' music is really very diverse. I expect 'eastern' music is too, but my ear isn't attuned to it so I don't really know.

I find that sometimes the lyrics to a song mean a lot, although not very often. I agree that you (usually) need more than a good riff to make a good song, but to me it certainly helps

If you want a really mellow song, try Bush - Glycerine. I think a lot of people don't like Bush, but I do and this is IMHO their best song.

I think I agree with you there Harry. I also like greedy fly and cold contagious off their 2nd album.

Both good songs. Bush lyrics are usually fairly depressing, but they're just what you need to chill out sometimes.

The Bass Line. If you get a good bass line in a song, then i love it. Toca's miricle (original) has a wicked bass, it kinda goes WaaaOOOWaaah. it rules.

Hey guys, don't knock our Western music. I'll admit you've gotta wade through the crap rap and country music and death metal but our hard rock and heavy metal is awesome. The problem is too many people only know about those idiots like Eminem or one of the dozens of rap groups who just "sing" about killing people or whatever, and they don't hear the quality musicians.

I like Eminem a lot, and also heavy bands like Korn, Slipknot, etc...and then the other side with mellow music from Vangelis, stuff from the Beatles.

I grew up listening to my Mom's oldies station, so I have a good appreciation for older music. I know a lot of songs and can recognize them by the first few notes, which draws a lot of weird looks around my friends, but I like the songs.

For modern music, Metallica is my favorite, because they're all-around awesome, but I also like Garbage, Korn, Godsmack, Creed, etc. The only music I strongly dislike is rap and death metal. Also pop musicicians that don't play instruments. If a band or group doesn't feature their musicians, they get little respect from me.

the latest RHCP album is incredible - cool riffs, funky bass and melodic singing, all coupled with really catchy tunes.

Different things draw me to songs depending on what mood I'm in. Most memories of my life have songs associated with them.........I have always had a soundtrack to my life....how 'bout you?

Yeah whenever I listen to certain music that I used to listen to a lot, I remember that certain episode to my life, it's coo (as Cartman would say).
