    school pie maths question

    A ladle is in the shape of a hemi-sphere, it has a diameter of 3 cm.
    It is used to remove soup from a cylindrical container, which has a radius of 6 cm.

    i) Find the volume of one full ladle in terms of pie.
    ii) How far will the depth of the soup drop if 24 ladles of soup are removed?

    Im in school and the answer says = 9/4 pie cm cubed in the back of book

    I think the answer to i) is wrong

    Can anyone help me please?

    Re: school pie maths question

    i) Volume of sphere is (4/3) pi r3
    Volume of hemisphere is therefore (4/6) pi r3

    r = 1.5

    So Volume =(4/6) pi 1.53

    = (4/6) pi (3/2)3

    = (2/3) pi (27/8)

    = (9/4) pi

    So textbook is correct
