300 Million...
300 million people in the USA as of 4:47 am this morning. 1 person added every 11 seconds after you take into account illegal aliens, immigrates, births, and deaths.
Now wonder why there is so much traffic

Beats Europe, where even with migration they're still facing a massive social services crisis since they're not producing enough workers to fund the cradle-to-grave welfare programs that people have come to rely on. Yay, we're less doomed!

Re: 300 Million...
No, we have a doomed social security program due to the fact that people live longer and there is not enough money to fund retirement.
If the UK needs people we would be glad to ship some over to you.

Re: 300 Million...
But that is why your country is more doomed then our as you say.
Switch to IE 7 and revive your country!
Still, 300 Mil is nothing compared to some other countries. Just too many darn people living in to small of a space. Ship them off to war in an effort to reduce your propulation.

1/3rd of world's population lives here and in the neighbourhood. That seems like lot of congestion to me.

Yeah; I do wonder how India is going to sustain its population growth or if it has any plans to try to slow it down, like China's 'one child' policy for example.

Re: 300 Million...
India cannot sustain that kind of population growth, but then it is of little consequence if there are homeless children wandering around dying every day. In the US/UK that would be quickly stamped out.
I just can't see how this can be resolved. The population is getting older so there will come a day when pensions/social securities no longer exist.
As for where to go, the deserts can always be terraformed if need be (last resort I'd think), but it seems to me there are two viable choices. Either space or the seas.

If you crammed all of the people in the world into s single phone-booth then the booth would most likely break.
I don't live here any more.
